Here's the thing. We are born into a very complicated body without a user's guide explaining how to keep our bodies healthy and happy. Instead, for better or worse, we get parents who do their best to teach us how to be healthy and happy. The trouble is, our parents might not know how to be healthy and happy, so then, what? Well, at some point, we all need to take responsibility for our own health and happiness.
One of the most important life skills, no-one ever taught us growing up, is how to move and use our bodies so we don't misuse our muscles and prematurely wear out our joints. That's where my book, "The Users's Guide to Moving the Body " will be super helpful.
The bottom line is, it is tricky to know how to move our bodies well. We have over 620 muscles and 350 joints that all need to be used everyday in a good way, not overused, misused or abused. That's a lot of responsibility because for whatever reason, when muscles get forgotten about and stop being used, the fascia that wraps around and runs through the muscles gets thick, hardens up and squeezes the nerves, who, in order to be happy, need your muscles and fascia to be soft and unrestricted so they can slide and glide during movement. Nerves are very clear and persistent communicators who are not afraid to speak their mind and be a pain in the ass when they are not happy.
Its like having 620 employees working inside your body and every one of those muscles has a job that moves you in some way. The thing is, all of your employees love their jobs and they want to work everyday. As the boss, it is a lot of responsibility to learn how keep your muscle crew employed and working as you move your way through your days.
It is not as daunting as it may seem. You don't need to learn about every single muscle to be a good boss, but you do need to know some basic education about operating your body. That's where I come in. I am an expert mover and I know how the body is designed to move easily, efficiently and pain free.
During sessions, while I am working in your fascial system, lengthening shortnesses, softening areas of hardness, I can teach you some things. I can teach you about standing, sitting, walking and moving your hips, spine, and shoulders in ways you might not ever have imagined you could move. I can show you how you can turn idle time, standing in line at the grocery store, or anywhere else, into postural rehab therapy and turn idle time into a therapeutic event.
Its cool and can be life changing. The vehicle through which all this happens is called The Structural Integration 10 Series 10 sessions, 90 minutes each with a blend of: assessments, movement educatoin and hands on bodywork. It is an amazing experience that will change the way you move, think and feel.
